Owie, the update

Where have I been all week?  What was up with that last weird post?

Well, I spent the last several days in the hospital where they took out my gall bladder.  I was in the ER all day on Tuesday and not given anything to eat.  Eventrually they gave me some pain killers so I'd stop crying.

They couldn't determine if my pain was from kidney stones or the gall bladder.  I had a CAT scan and an ultrasound.    Then they did some weird test in the Nuclear Medicine department where they injected me with radioactive dye and took photos every 15 minutes to see if my gall bladder was blocked.  It was.  COMPLETELY.  It was also filled with stones.

So, probably a lot of the pain I felt when I went into labor with Joey was also a gall bladder attack.

So, yesterday I went into the OR and they cut the sucker out laproscopically.  I have three incisions on my torso and a hole in my belly button.  They wanted me to stay another day for observation but like I said the other day, I don't have medical insurance, so all of this is going to have to be paid out of my pockets.  YIKES!  They did give me an application for charity care.  Cross your fingers for me!

So, anyway, I'm home.  A little sore.  A little tender.   Very sleepy.

I was wondering what happened! Ouch! The thought of Gall Bladder stuff crossed my mind, but I think it was only because B just had his out. I hope you recover well! It didn't take long for B to be his normal self. And, I'm crossing my fingers for you on the hospital bills!

I feel just fine now, a week later.

Note to self: get that charity care ap filled out!

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

That's sort of the way things work with me. Chaos is the order of the day- always!

Now I feel bad for making gall bladder jokes last week. I only thought about such things because non-blogging proto-lawyer Joe had his out a few months ago and is now doing great. He can't have any fat so he's lost a lot of weight. That's put him in good spirits despite the missing organ.

Tim Moss explained to me why it is so many women give birth and then lose their gall bladder-- something to do with the way the baby sort of forces all of your organs out of their original location. I don't think it's a huge deal and I feel fine already.

They didn't give me any dietary restrictions. Hmmm.

Thank God you're okay!!! I've been so worried. I was checking in like hourly to see if you'd posted, and I wrote you an email. I swear, from now on, I need your phone number. Did I say how worried I was?

Big ((HUGS)) to you! Get well soon! (p.s. now we have identical laproscopic scars!) :)

You don't have a gall bladder either or was your laproscopy for something else?

No, it was for my appendix. Remember about 4 years ago I had random pains and ended up in the ER having to have it taken out? You told me to get myself to a hospital because I was lagging on it! :)

Poor Juli!! How are you feeling? I had horrible gallbladder attacks for 2 years before I had mine out! Having it out was the best thing in the world!!!!!

How did you ever go for two years with that pain?!?!? You must be one tough chick!
Apr. 28th, 2006 05:39 pm (UTC)
I'm not tough by no means! Insurance wouldn't approve surgery so I just had to deal. I can't count how many times I was in the ER for it.

oh yikes! get lots of rest and feel better soon!

Thanks! I already feel much better.

OMG! I don't know how I missed this originally but I'm sorry!

I really hope you feel better soon, and I'm glad they were able to figure out what it was. That totally sucks about the insurance thing. :(

I ought to add, I don't know how this differs between states, but a friend of mine had over $20,000 in medical bills racked up because he didn't have insurance and I think they forgave all but a couple hundred of it due to need, and he doesn't have any dependents. So you have a good fighting chance, I think.

No biggie.

I have the application for charity care somewhere and I'm praying they take pity on me. Otherwise, I have no idea how we'll pay for this.
