Cross-country caravan

Preparations have begun in earnest for the Ruffing family to drive halfway across the country next weekend to attend usedmonk's wedding in Michigan.  This was a trip that was supposed to be made easy by the purchase of a minivan before the arrival of Joey.  Since Joey arrived five weeks earlier than he was supposed to, we are still without said minivan.   The five of us don't fit in either of our cars ( a Corolla and a Focus) so, we're stuck.

I looked into renting one for the five days we'd need it and it would cost us like $400 to do so.  Steve balked at that so instead we're driving TWO separate cars to Pittsburgh, where we will spend a night and leave Rachel to enjoy a few days with her grandmother, and then take our Ford on to Michigan.  Not the ideal situation but the only option we have at the moment.

I still haven't booked our hotel for the two nights we'll be in Michigan because I want to talk to the groom tonight and see where other college type folks will be staying.

Tomorrow I will be shopping for some needed things for the trip.  I need a wrap to go with my dress.  Andy needs a dress shirt and tie to go with his suit.  Joey needs some suitably adorable baby outfit to wear.  I may get Steve a new shirt and tie to go with his suit but I'm not sure yet.

I have to start making lists of all the stuff we'll need to haul with us:  boppy pillow, booster seat, mountains of diapers and wipes, Baby Einstein videos, crayons and coloring books, sippy cups, binkies and spare binkies,  many many clothes... what else?

I'm getting nervous about the drive with the two munchkins and I know it's going to take waaaay longer than it usually does for us to get to Pittsburgh but it's going to be so worth it to go to the wedding.  I miss Tim so much-- and he's so busy, I'm so busy.   Not going was just not an option for me.  Hell, I was planning to go when we believed that Joey was going to be born on the 17.

Hope you have a great time at the wedding! I gotta say, you're one BRAVE woman taking two kids on a road trip! I'd pull my hair out! :)

I thought you said Rachel's grandmother passed away?

Two possible responses to this
Response 1:
We think she'll enjoy a few days with her anyway.

Response 2:
This is her OTHER grandmother - her paternal grandmother. It was her maternal grandmother who passed away.

I don't understand response 1 but in reply to response 2-- Duh! I can't believe I didn't think that Rachel would have TWO grandmothers! :) :shaking head: I'm a dolt. :)

Re: Two possible responses to this
Response 1 is Steve being snarky and sarcastic.

Oh!!! :) Nevermind, I get it now. A joke that she'd enjoy a few days with the passed away grandma anyway. LOL! :)

Oh I know... but Rachel is a little older for one and two, I thought you said you'd be dropping her off halfway.

Still, Rachel is the reason we had to rent a car. She doesn't fit between the car seats in my Ford.
