MIL Update

So Steve and I have been hashing this out for two days now.  This evening he called his older brother to see if he could offer a different perspective.  Older brother (Mike) says that older kids deserve to get more because they're older.  I disagree.

Steve and I have essentially decided to do nothing at this moment.  The gifts have been distributed and the slight is felt by me, not Andy, this time.  When a similar occurrance happens again, I will find a tactful way to tell her that inequity will not be tolerated.  Steve is worried that if he goes off on his mom and she actually does go through with one of her now frequent suicide threats, he couldn't live with the guilt.  I told him that he's essentially giving in to her emotional blackmail but whatever.  If I have to be the bitch, I'm fine with that.

The thought that gives me consolation and is keeping me from pulling my hair out is that karma is a bitch.  What goes around, comes around.  I really believe that.  So, I have to let this incident go.

I have to turn my attention to the New Year's Day family dinner I'm hosting here on Sunday.  Steve is working Saturday from noon until midnight so I'm pretty much on my own.  Family tradition calls for lasagna and stuffed shells.  I already started my sauce.  I browned the sausage.  I made the breadcrumbs for my meatballs.  Tomorrow I'll actually put the pasta dishes together so that Sunday, all I have to do is pop them in the oven.

I read your earlier posts - just catching up now. This situation sucks. I am sorry that she is so hurtful and obviously unfair and her actions are just shitty.

My opinion, and of course I'm not an expert, is that someone who is that into emotional blackmail is not going to waste a suicide attempt on inequity of present-giving.

She might threaten it, but she's not going to do it for that. She has to save it for something really important.

Damn, I didn't realize how cold that sounded.

Well, yes, it is cold, but I honestly have no patience for people like that, having dated a couple.

I do too because then if this is true I am owed a lot of back presents!
