Family Roundtable a success

Having a full day to cool down from the Great Andy Injury Caper certainly helped before having to have a talk with Rachel.  We had our summit this morning over breakfast and it went really well.  The rules were that no one was going to get in trouble for what they said, that honesty was required and that all cards had to be on the table.  So I told Rachel that I feel like she takes it out on me that her mom isn't around by disobeying my rules and not doing what I tell her to do and that when she does that, she makes things dangerous for Andy.  I know she doesn't want to harm him, but in a house with a curious toddler, there's no room for carelessness.   We talked about communication-- that she's allowed to tell us when she has negative feelings.  If she's angry or upset she should be comfortable telling us.  We talked about trust issues and getting more independence.  Her biug complaint is that she doesn't want to wash dishes every day.  Steve explained that I don't want to cook every day or go to work every day or change stinky diapers every day but sometimes people have to do things they don't like to do and that it's not fair to us that in addition to the other responsibilities we have with working, raising kids and keeping a house that we should have to also do the one task we know she can do to make things a little easier for us.

So, long story short(er), I think we're okay.
