Absolutely appalling

Apparently the "homosexual lifestyle" is spreading and deadly and it's going to destroy our nation."  Not to mention that it's a "bigger threat than terrorism or Islam."  Well, according to Oklahoma Representative Sally Kern!

How do idiots like this keep getting elected?

Apparently, someone recorded her speaking at some group.  I love how these people forget that whatever they say to one person, if it's evenly remotely controversial, will end up on the internet.

I wish I could do more than just shake my head.  I am so sick of people using select quotes from the Bible to justify their prejudice and ignoring what I would consider to be more important quotes like "love your neighbor as yourself" and "turn the other cheek."

So angry right now...

That woman is such a twit. I love the bit about how homosexuality is a threat "like Islam." Um, no. That would be like me saying Christianity is a threat because of Eric Rudolph. Do I say that? No. I have sense. *sigh*

What I want to know is how Islam as a whole is a threat.

I might narrow the focus a little and say Muslim Extremists or Radical Islam rather than Islam as a whole.

One lone idiot in Oklahoma spewing this crap is disgusting enough in 2008, but this woman is an elected official, saying this at a Republican event, getting paid our tax dollars, AND she's on the education and social services subcommittees!!!!!!!!

Really, how do these idiots get elected?

AND she refuses to apologize and hides behind the First Amendment!!!

I totally agree.

*sets up own First Amendment shield as this may get dirty*

*barks through megaphone*

"What a tw@tw@ffle she is!"

There was a response video on Youtube that I think said it very well: "Just because she wouldn’t pull a trigger and kill a gay person, doesn’t mean she doesn’t have an influence on people who would."

Someone else said: Sally Kern has much more in common with the Muslim fanatics who become terrorists than perhaps she realizes. They are also intolerant of gay people and use their distorted views to persecute anyone who doesn't fit their idea of what is "righteous.”

I really just want the intolerance to stop. I feel like this is the Neo-civil rights movement. Where is the figurehead of the gay community that we can rally behind? He's hiding because if a 15 year-old boy is capable of killing a male classmate just because he asked him to be his valentine, then what would happen to someone who stood up to say, "ENOUGH!"

In the fifties it was acceptable to say that a black person was less of a person than a white man. For the most part, that's changed. Attitudes have changed. It's time for the same tolerance for the GLBT community.

I'm just so f$*%^#@ angry. I don't have any stake in it or anything except to be completely sickened by the right-wingers.

Agreed - such arrogance! NY's Spitzer, too - how can he think he's above getting noticed? JEEEZ.

Especially when his whole persona is based around being tough on crime.

I just shake my head.

I hope his wife hauls her ass to a doctor and gets herself checked out.

I canNOT belIEVE that she was standing by him at the press conferences!

It reminds me that I used to tell people that Bill and Hillary are probably swingers or have an arrangement, that she would put up with his nonsense.

She just made herself look like a fool.

Just as bad as McGreevy's wife a few years ago in New Jersey. At least she stood up and divorced the bastard.

"Bastard"? How can you be so intolerant of gay people?

Right, since if we support homosexuals, we have to support adultery, too.

God, I never got sick of hearing that when that whole scandal erupted. Ugh.

No, he's a bastard because he put his unqualified boyfriend in a high-paying position of power in the state, the state equivalent of "Director of Homeland Security."

He's a jerk for being gay, marrying a woman and cheating on her with men and then having her stand up at the podium while he announced that he is a "gay-American."
Mar. 12th, 2008 07:25 pm (UTC)
Oh, I certainly know that. But, as with the case of Tom Foley, a lot of rightists tried to equate his crimes and his bad choices with the fact that he was gay, which was immaterial to the fact that he was a bastard. He was a jerk who just happened to be gay.
