The giant painted rock is like a NU tradition. Student groups paint it to advertise events and stuff like that.

The Princess Diana rock is a memorial. She came to our campus when I was a junior because we were opening a breast cancer wing at the affiliated hospital. She walked around the campus and shook a lot of hands. I remember being delighted that she wore a purple gown to the gala opening event thing. So anyway, yeah, it's a memorial.
