So a week or so ago I made a post about Patricia Kennealy Morrison, fantasy novelist and handfasted wife of Jim Morrison.  I noticed she was in LJ, friended her and was ALL EXCITED.

I said nothing disparaging or bad or anything...

She commented on my post.  NASTILY.  I replied, I thought, defending myself and trying to convey to the best of my ability that I am a FAN.

So, apparently she just joined Myspace and made an LJ post for people to friend her.  So I tried.  She rejected me an sent me an email that said "nice try, I don't think so..."

And then replied again to my LJ.

I am totally flabbergasted and affronted and in just plain old complete disbelief.

Wow... I've seen a lot of childishness on the Internet, but that takes talent. Nothing like seeing a "celebrity" take a fan to task for past suffering.

And by the way, I'm really sorry. People shouldn't have to deal with rudeness like that.

It makes sense, you see, because I am every "Doorzoid" fan who has badmouthed her in the past 35 years. I guess I'm the every fan to take the brunt even though aside from being an obsessed Doors fan as a 13-year-old, I had originally emailed her because I so thoroughly enjoyed her novels. I can't help but feel really hurt by this...

What she said was meant to be hurtful, but you should dismiss her as a kook. Who but a kook would be so cruel to you with so little provocation, and at first meeting, over the Internet no less?

Just understand that you're only hurt by her being a petty person because you had come to respect her work so much. Unfortunately, the artist and the art are often vastly distinct.

All I can do is shrug...

well, its the internet. Can you even be sure it was her? I'm not a doors fan and have never even heard of her, but a Myspace page?? Really? I dunno...

It started on LJ and has moved over to Myspace but whatever... I am sure it's her. Either way, I defriended her on LJ and I guess it's another one of those unfixable interpersonal issues that will plague me for years.

who cares what some old woman thinks of you, anyway. ;) She probably still says "pyschedelic". hehehehe. :p

Since this post is friends-locked and I don't have to worry about more insults...

...This is a woman who has made a life of focusing on what was essentially a ten day affair! If she and Jim Morrison were in such deep, eternal love why the hell did he move to Paris with his girlfriend of six years and leave her behind? Then he died and left everything he had to Pamela Courson and no one else. You're right-- what the hell do I care what a bitter old lady thinks of me???

Wow, sounds like she either has a problem reading for context or possibly has had some serious meds slipped to her...

The woman is 61 years old... it makes me sad to think that she's been that angry for 40 years.

If she's seriously a Pagan, she has got to know somewhere in the depths of what passes for her soul that she's racking up a hell of a karmic debt and is likely to be reincarnated as a wood louse at this rate.

While your initial post made me interested in reading her work, now I don't think I am going to. There's enough awesome stuff out there that isn't written by spiteful, ungrateful hags for me to waste my time with her.

I just went back and read her comments to you - wow, what is up with her?? Some legacy she's left for one of the greatest musical artists of all time. I think that's just sad. I'd like to hope Jim would have been more friendly than that. You're a fan - and you should be treated as such. She sounds just plain bitter.
Sorry, hon. You shouldn't have to go through that. It's not nice. Try not to take it personally!

I'm trying not to get al let down, but it's difficult.

I feel dirty almost, for being a Doors fan, like in her mind, liking that particular group and music makes me less of a fan of Jim Morrison. That he was better than the group, better than the fans. She's looking down on me for admiring the man she married. It's utterly confusing to me. But whatever, I did what I could. You just can't get through to some people.
