Bittersweet Chocolate

My house is empty of everyone except Ruffings for the first time since Thursday night.

Wayne and Amy (and Lexi and Nathan) arrived on Thursday.  Friday morning we took the kids to the Party Gym and let them run around like mad, hoping to tire them out for an early bedtime in the evening.  When we got back, the best friend I've had the longest was waiting in the driveway.  She came home to NJ from Wisconsin, just for the holiday and came over to see me and the kids and stuff.  We hung out at the kitchen table telling stories and it was awesome. At one point, Roseanne popped over and joined the gathering around my (messy) kitchen table.

I made buffalo wings and shrimp plus waffle fries and it was good.  Deep fried goodness. Yum.  Maria didn't stay for dinner which was disappointing but I love to see her.  I miss being able to just call her on a friday and go to a movie, spur of the moment.

Saturday, I can't remember what we did for most of the day before Steve left for work.  Um, what did we do?  Later on Saturday, the kids were horrible.  I painted the table and chair set I got for Lexi for Christmas.  It still needs touch up work.  Grrr.  Wayne set up the awesomeness that is the laptop he gave me and set up.  It was his but he got a new one for himself and Amy for Christmas.  So I got the old one and he put in a new harddrive and set up a wireless router and now I have the ability to be in the living room with the kids and still entertain myself.  I am totally loving in.  Whoooo hooo!  We had problems getting all of the kids to go to sleep.  Andy didn't go to sleep until like 11 pm.  Joey was up crazy late too.  Then Lexi woke up around 2 a.m.  Not a lot of sleep was had here last night.

So we woke up this morning and exchanged gifts.  I felt bad that there was nothing wrapped for Lexi and I still haven't finished Nathan's first year book.  I suck.  We gave Amy a circle pendant with little diamonds in it and a bottle of the new Bailey's Caramel.  For Wayne, a Northwestern replica football jersey and a really cool purple dress shirt and tie, since he now has to wear one every day to work.  Amy and Wayne gave Steve a Sirius radio and subscription and he's all excited and goofy about it.  I got the one thing I have wanted for like, four years now!!!  Whoo hoo!  My very own iPod!

(insert screaming here!!!!)

It's the red iPod nano and it's awesome and I've been loading it up all day.  It rocks. I am more psyched than words can possibly express.

So it's Christmas eve and not a creature is stirring.  It's quiet.  I miss our friends already but I need to go throw something together for dinner and mix up some cookie dough.  Maybe tonight we'll go see the lights at the PNC Arts Center.  I didn't get a picture of the kids with Santa this year-- Joey's first Christmas.  I suck.

have fun baking cookies :D

Better then Sex (the cookie)
4 c flour
1 c finely granulated sugar (regular sugar will not work)
1 c rice flour or corn starch
1 lb butter
2 tbsp Crisco (i recomend butter flavored)

Mix and knead into a pan (note more then 1/2 inch thick...trust me) (or roll into small balls and press down with stone cookie press) bake at 300 for 50 min when baking in one big pan cut while warm and sprinkle with sugar (more ultra fine sugar) and cool before removing from pan.

Small press makes abotu 100 cookies, bake at 400 for 10-12 min

1 drop food coloring to 1/4 c fine sugar for topping if you want :D

also the other thing that turned out really well for me, get jar of fluff...follow directions for fantasy fudge, they have dark chocolate raspberry chips in the stores now, makes for OUTSTANDING fudge...total time to make fudge is about 15 min and thats assuming you are slacking

*hugs and happy holidays*
love you juliannie :D

I have got to try those. I usually make fudge with the recipe that I got on a can of sweetened condensed milk.

In a pot over low heat combine 3 cups of chocolate chips and 1 can of sweetened condensed milk. Add 1 T of vanilla and a pinch of salt. Stir til chocolate is completely melted, spread into a greased 9x9 pan. Let cool for 2 hours. YUM!

We only opened our gifts from Wayne and Amy while they were here on Sunday. Everything else waited until Christmas.

I am loving the laptop. I'm in the kitchen right now. It's awesome. And I think I have 300 songs loaded into my iPod so far. I still have more to go and then I'm going to organize playlists and stuff. Last night I bought an FM transmitter for the car and a shock protector because I know I'll drop it at some point, I am such a klutz.

Christmas day we went up to my parents house... I'll post about that later. Along with pictures.

Get some speakers for your pod like Brent got me http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2173,CONTENTID=10101 and then you can REALLY go all over the house, being able to listen to your music AND surf the web! :)

Those look sweet! I've been listening to stuff on my iTunes on the laptop but it has crappy speakers.
