Reason #19 Why I Hate Day Care

I got into work 8 minutes late yesterday because we were having really foggy, rainy weather.  Apparently, people forget how to drive when the sun isn't shining and traffic on the Parkway was horrendous.  I walked through the door to my office and was told immediately that both Steve and the day care had called for me.

That's never a good thing.

The teacher thought Andy had pink eye and someone needed to pick him up.  I am really treading water at work with my absences and I begged Steve to be the one to go get him.  Steve picked him up and brought him home but he asked if I could leave work early so that he could go back.  I ended up taking half a day and getting home at 2.  I got the impression that people in the office were not happy with me, that I had to leave, and I feel really bad about it but I was up front with them when I was hired about having a small child for whom I am responsible.  He's been sick more than usual but I can't really do anything about it.  We take him to the doctor, we give him his medication. Anyway...  as soon as I looked at him I knew he didn't have pink eye.  He has had a runny nose with thick green mucus.  Had they sent him home for that I wouldn't have been so annoyed.  When I got home, Steve told me that Rachel had a low fever and felt lighheaded so the school nurse wanted her to be picked up as well.

The earliest appointment Steve could get at the pedi's office was for 6:15 p.m.  Ugh!  So Steve went to work and I took Andy to the pediatrician.  By the time I left, Rachel was not feverish at all and had been sitting up in bed, and had been playing with Andy who was on the floor in her room.

As I left I reminded her to take care of the dog-- meaning, give her fresh water and food and let her into the yard to do her business.  This will be important later...

I sat for an hour in the pedi's waiting room while Andy ran around like a nutcase because there are no toys there and the TV is on CNN.  It was crazy hot and I was actually sweating.  The doctor took one look at Andy and said he doesn't have pink eye.  DUH!  The primary symptom of pink eye is a PINK EYE!  He had a little gunk but that's from his blocked tear duct/ head cold combination.  So she gave me an antibiotic prescription for him to clear that up and a slip that said he can go back to school today.  However, Steve and I still both had to take off time from work and we still have to pay for a day of daycare when he wasn't there.

Steve ended up spending the night at work because he would have been getting home around 1 am, to get up at 5 to go back.

When I woke up this morning I went out to the back porch to throw the pants I wanted to wear today in the dryer.  As soon as I opened the door, I knew there was a problem because the smell was like a slap in the face.  I turned on the light and knew that Rachel did not take care of the dog last night.  So when she gets home from school today she'll be cleaning dog droppings off the carpet.

Arrgh!

Ugh. I'm sorry about all the trouble and stupidity. It sucks when your whole day is sucked down the drain because of other people.

And WTF is with that daycare? If I went in there and I had just cut off my toe with a band saw, they would tell me I had pink eye!
