Those wacky physicists over at CERN in Switzerland turned on their  new big, bad particle accelerator today, called the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

They're trying to recreate the Big Bang, the believed beginning of our universe, and some people think that when the thing gets up to full power, around October 21, that it could create a black hole that will swallow our planet and we'll all die.

Heh, I read that Drudge (I don't go there though) had a headline that said, "World Did Not End."

Well, all they did today was send two protons around the thing, in the same direction. The real issue will be when they send them in opposing directions to smash into each other.

Sad thing is
Between getting pulled through a black hole and a McCain presidency, I'm going to pick the black hole. I bet it'd be more plesant, not to mention less damaging to the planet :P

Thanks for such a great laugh. I have to agree with you. Tis better to be blipped into non-existence than to suffer through watching all of our rights be stripped away and be taxed into a cardboard box.
