Those wicked protesters

Reposted from RedQueenMeg because I had to...  clearly this protester deserves to be repeatedly sprayed with pepper gas by those peaceful police officers!  I can't believe this is happening in the UNITED STATES at the Republican Convention.  Oh wait, it's the Republicans- the Constitution and the rights it provides doesn't mean anything.  They send the police out in full riot gear to beat up everyone, even the ones who are behaving.

Now that is screwed up! Not sure if you saw my journal entry or not, but on the flip side, there was a (small) group of crazies doing things like throwing trash in the streets, smashing store front windows and police car windows, throwing rocks at the cops and bricks through bus fulls of delegates. In those scenarios, I have no sympathy for what the cops do to them. In the video you posted, that's just messed up.

I may or may not attend a (peaceful) march later today. If I do, please wish me luck that I don't get attacked, assaulted, or sprayed by the cops.

Good luck!

I agree, there's a big difference between what this girl is doing and destroying property. It just looks like the police there don't see a difference at all!

The excuse will be that the police are just following orders. They can't be called upon to make judgments about who is peacefully organizing according to their rights in our Constitution and who is a rioter.

Where's Will in all of this? I haven't seen anything from him and I value his thoughts.

A little late, I know... But what to say? We have a state that ignores human suffering, and it's been that way for a while. One more... It makes my heart ache, but it doesn't change the picture at all. You can assault citizens and that provokes others to go crazy, and that reinforces the "fear" that the poor widdle wiot cops feel, and I actually do sympathize with them, but only up until they, as a black-suited mob with clubs, shields, and helmets, grind women into the ground, calling them "bitch," as they did in Democratic Denver, and breaking their doors down pre-emptively, as they did in St. Paul.

But is this anything new, when you consider the assault on Waco, the no-knock raids of the drug war, where people are gunned down in their homes when they get raided accidentally? Fuck, we've got tens of thousands of women prostituting themselves in Syria rather than live in their homeland of Iraq, which we've turned into a utopia of freedom and progress... I'm sorry, but my heart's bled out. I don't have any more sympathy. That poor girl stood, hoping to evoke human sympathy from men in masks. Well, you could have asked Gandhi how that would work out. Peaceful resistance takes a lot, a lot of hurt and heartache before it makes people wake up. And Americans are particularly inured to it, being a mighty warrior race and a bunch of bitter, disempowered folks when you get down to it, too. So how long do you want to wait? And how many will laugh at you on YouTube before you're through? And don't be surprised when the fat fucks at home only see the violent protesters. Your suffering won't earn you shit. You still willing to face it?

No, we don't care about Iraq, we don't care about Katrina, and even the sight of a young overweight girl crying out in pain from a jet of pepper spray designed to take down PCP junkies won't sway us. We don't care. We don't dare to.

There'll be buckets of blood running down the streets before you have the pigs and the politicians realize that they're hurting people. Because we've been hurting people for a long time. So like I said, who has the patience to try and evoke sympathy from a machine designed to quash it, designed to make you hate your neighbor, think your kids selfish and spoiled, deride political protest as essentially stupid and pointless if not counterproductive.

That's how I feel. I'm bled out. And I've become radicalized to the indecency of a society that goes ballistic at teen sex while shrugging at war. They don't see the pictures of the war dead when they're American. What are the chances of them taking a look at a foreign child with half his head blown off thanks to yours and my tax dollars? Even if you got them to look, they'd switch off. So what are the chances of them really looking that brutality in the eye? About the chances of getting a cop to turn off the swagger and the frat boy giggle as he sprays your eyes and mouth full of Mace. About the chances of change when we've gotten so damn good at killing and getting off on killing.

Wow, that is horrible. She was just walking backwards as the police line advanced. She didn't touch anybody. She didn't try to block or stop the police advance.

I guess they must have felt really threatened by the flower she was holding. Maybe the cop was allergic and feared for his life (rolling eyes).

This stands, to me, as a modern day equivalent of the stories we heard at Independence Hall of patriots standing up for their beliefs and rights. It just sucks that our government is on the other side of the fight.

Report from daireen, who lives in the area, says that they aren't just pepper-spraying the peaceful ones anymore.

They are rounding up and arresting medics. People giving first aid and water to the protestors.

Arresting them.
