Car Stuff

So I apparently did more damage to my car than I originally thought!  Aside from the dented panel on the side, I screwed up the tie rod end or something like that.  And the wheel.  And screwed up the suspension.  At least I'm getting as much as I can out of my $500 deductible.

Groan!

And they still haven't had my car up on the lift and I don't know when I'm getting it back. This sucks so completely, there aren't even words.

Yuck! With all that I'm surprised they didn't just total it out.

That's the thing, to look at it, it looks perfectly fine! So, I dunno... it's crazy.

So did my green Saturn. It had only a dent in the door, but they totaled it because the frame was knocked so far out of true, even though you couldn't see it (highway-speed T-bone crash).

So, what happens if they total it? We still owe a few thousand dollars on it. Do I still have to pay that or does the insurance company take care of it? Arrghh. All of this just sucks.

That totally depends on how much you owe on it vs. how much it's presently worth.

For example, I owed about $7000 on my car (I think) when it was totaled. Since its listed blue book value at the time was about $8000, I received a check for $1000 after my insurance company paid the car off to the bank. I used that for a down payment.

If my car had depreciated quicker than I'd made payments, it might have happened another way, like if I owed $7000 but the car was only worth $6000, then I would have had to pay the difference plus buy a new car.

So basically what I'm saying is that the insurance company will pay to the bank whatever the car is worth in blue book value. Any overage would go to you. And if the blue book value doesn't settle accounts with the bank, then that would be on you. Hope that makes sense!

Yeah, I'm a little peeved. I wish they would total it. I really want to get a minivan...

Well, they haven't finished assessing the damage, right? They might after they lift the car.

I think that happened to my parents. They didn't think their car was totalled but after they got it up on lifts, the realized the damage was just too much.

(I'll cross my fingers for you)
